If you live, work or study in Teatinos and you're after a reliable spot for merienda — Spain's traditional afternoon break with coffee and something properly sweet — LaMaruja Bakery is your place: an artisan bakery on Calle Hermes, 10, with an in-house display case and afternoon hours Monday to Saturday.
Why have merienda in Teatinos
Teatinos is a neighbourhood with plenty of mid-afternoon movement: students coming out of class, families back from school, and locals after a moment of calm before the day continues. LaMaruja Bakery is the bakery in Teatinos made for that moment: a display case of treats fresh from the bakehouse, with no preservatives or artificial additives, and a place to sit and take your time.
We're not a quick stopover — we're an artisan bakery: every cake, cookie and sponge is made in our own bakehouse on Calle Hermes, 10, with recipes we care for from ingredient to plating.
What to order for merienda
The afternoon display case changes depending on what comes out of the bakehouse that day, but these are the fixed favourites to pair with your coffee:
| For merienda | Price |
|---|---|
| Slice of Original cheesecake | €3.50 |
| Slice of topped cheesecake | €4.20 |
| Slice of Maruwnie (brownie) | €3.20 |
| Marujita (filled cookie) | €2.50 |
| Marupop (cake pop) | €1.50 |
If you're the type who tries the cheesecake in Málaga first before deciding on the rest, start there: it's the house classic. And if you want to see everything we make, our full flavours menu is always up to date.

The plan with kids or for studying
Teatinos is a university neighbourhood, and LaMaruja Bakery is a short walk from the Teatinos/UMA Campus, with a city bus stop just 2 minutes away. It's common to see students taking the afternoon to have merienda and go over their notes calmly before heading back to class.
If you're coming with kids, merienda works just as well: a Marujita or a Marupop are small, easy-to-share formats, perfect for a short break with no need to sit down at a long table.
Club Marujeo: your merienda earns points
Every time you have merienda at LaMaruja Bakery you can earn points in our Club Marujeo loyalty programme. There's nothing special you need to do: every visit counts, and those points turn into perks for your next merienda.
