Who we are
A Málaga project
made
with soul.
It started as Paula's dream. Now we're four young entrepreneurs with one clear goal: making LaMaruja the best place to eat and to simply be, in Málaga.
Our story
Where it began
The person who
started it all.
A grandmother who cooked by feel, never by measure. A granddaughter who watched every step. And a day Paula decided to turn that heritage into her life's project.
Paula
Paula worked in many places across the industry before taking the leap. Her dream was always clear: to build her own business. In June 2025, she made it real.
A pastry chef by vocation, a Málaga girl at heart. Every piece that leaves the bakehouse carries her signature.
Maruja
Maruja, Paula's grandmother, was the one who — without ever knowing it — started it all. The way she cooked, calmly, lovingly, never measuring a thing, was the spark Paula needed to turn her dream into a real business.
Maruja's original recipes are still the soul of LaMaruja. The name is the tribute.
Our story
From Mesonero Romanos
to Teatinos.
The first shop
Paula opens LaMaruja Bakery in a small shop on Calle Mesonero Romanos, Málaga. Lots of excitement, not much space, and a very clear dream. A business in honour of her grandmother, with her recipes, her philosophy and her values. What started small had a lot inside it.
Jonathan García joins
Jonathan, Paula's partner, joins the project. He had been her biggest support from day one, alongside her family. A designer and strategist, Jonathan builds the whole LaMaruja identity: the visual name, the marketing and the strategy that takes the project much further.
Calle Hermes, 10, Teatinos
Just 9 months after opening, LaMaruja had already outgrown its space. We moved to Calle Hermes, 10, Teatinos: a shop three times the size, built to grow, to welcome customers better and to truly be a place to marujear — to hang out and chat, La Maruja style.
Joaquín and Rafael Muñoz join
With the new shop already up and running, the team takes its final leap. Joaquín and Rafael Muñoz join LaMaruja, bringing operations, energy and the vision needed to keep growing. Four young people from Málaga, one project with a big future.

The team
Four people from Málaga.
One project.
In 2026, Joaquín and Rafael Muñoz joined the project, giving the business a leap in quality and scale. LaMaruja is what it is today thanks to all four of them.

Operations
LaMaruja isn't just a patisserie. It's proof that four young people from Málaga, with plenty of energy and a clear project, can build something big from scratch. Maruja's story was the spark that led to the leap into business. What came after is hard work, excitement and love for Málaga.

Calle Hermes, 10.
The place to marujear.
After 9 months on Mesonero Romanos, our growth called for more space. In April 2026, we opened this shop in Teatinos: three times bigger, with a visible bakehouse area, tables to linger at, and the atmosphere we always wanted to create.
Come for breakfast, order whatever you fancy, and stay longer than you planned. That's what LaMaruja is for.
Our brand
A brand crafted
from day one.
Jonathan made sure from the very start that LaMaruja had an identity with a personality of its own. Every photo, every text, every visual detail tells you who we are and what makes us different. The result speaks for itself.
📸 @lamarujabakeryA look of our own
A warm, coherent, Málaga-rooted look that reflects LaMaruja's artisan philosophy in every post.
Authentic content
No filters. What you see on Instagram is what you find when you walk into the shop: real product, real people.
A Málaga community
A community of customers who share a love of good pastry and artisan breakfasts in Málaga.
What's next
The future of
LaMaruja.
The growth isn't stopping. With its roots in Málaga and its eyes on what's ahead, LaMaruja knows exactly where it's heading.
Expanding B2B line
LaMaruja already works with hotels, restaurants and businesses across Málaga that trust the artisan quality of our products. The next step: reaching more businesses that want to offer their customers the best.
More locations in Málaga
Calle Hermes was the defining leap, but not the last one. The ambition is clear: more LaMaruja locations, so more people in Málaga can enjoy the flavour that makes us unique.
No ceiling for these young founders
Four entrepreneurs full of energy, a project that has already proven it works, and the drive to build something big. LaMaruja has a unique flavour that Málaga deserves to know on a much bigger scale.
